I am Dr. Andrew Ang, a general practitioner who have recently resigned from the governmental compulsory service around January 2020. I’ve started a small rehab distributor company, fuelled by personal interest and passion, while running a small community clinic in Cyberjaya. The seriousness of the Corona Virus (COVID-19) is surreal. I believe what we are experiencing is just the tip of the iceberg. Some experts say that this pandemic may even last up to a year. Our frontliners are already on the brink of collapsing. Our resources are on the brink of depleting. It will be a test of willpower of the human race versus the resilience of this virus. It is depressing to see our fellow Malaysian comrades falling, especially our medical frontliners who are the nation’s biggest asset. There are at least 1306 positive cases and already 10 reported casualties as I was writing this article. Yet, during this desperate time, scammers broke loose. Many people got scammed by purchasing fake masks and thermometers from unverified sources.
On 23 March 2020, our Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the government will be importing 10 million pieces of 3ply face masks for Malaysians. However with the current population of 31 million people, does it mean that one mask is simply catered for 3 people? And what would happen after that? I pondered and came up with a solution.
I believe with my experience and connection, I can help those in need to purchase what’s needed without making much profit. I believe we should help one other to battle this ongoing war.

No one can help everyone but everyone can help someone. I may be a regular general practitioner but hey, this small aid may somewhat help the community and together we can do so much more. To be frank, doing this allows me to raise some funds for myself to buy my own Personal Protective Equipment to run my own clinic as well. With my expertise, I hope this benefits everyone as well as their loved ones. Cheers.
1) Why do we need to raise funds?
As I am speaking as a doctor in a private GP, we are in need of personal protective equipments. Unlike the governmental sector, we do not get subsidies nor sponsors to buy them.
2) Why can't you buy those equipments on your own?
Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, most major local suppliers sell equipments directly to hospitals and we are unable to source for adequate supplies. I hope, with the funds raised, we can source them directly from overseas.
3) What happens if you can't source for the proper personal protective equipment?
Despite being a small community private clinic, we are exposed to the same risks of getting infected; just as much as other frontliners working in a governmental hospital. Many clinics chose to close down during this difficult period of Restriction Movement Order as they do not have the suitable equipment to protect themselves and their family.
4) Do you really need RM50k to buy the proper equipments?
No. This is a small community project of mine to help those in need of the items above. We only make a 10-15% cut from there. All earnings will be used to stock up personal protective equipments for my staff, other clinics and myself.
5) What's the long term goal for this program?
With the proper PPE and equipments, I hope to be able to provide a mass COVID-19 test for the community in Cyberjaya and areas in close proximity. As a result, we can reduce the massive workload burdened by our government hospitals and clinics.
6) How long does it take for the medical equipments to arrive upon contributing to this cause?
We will be delivering the ordered items within 1-2 weeks after your contribution. Some items may come within a week upon funding. (e.g. WF5000 thermometer as currently the global demand for contactless themometer is way too high)
