What This Story Is About

Mikhail was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder when he was 8 years old. Pony Tales for Mikhail is the story of his experiences, difficulties and challenges due to his condition and how hippotherapy – treatment with the help of a horse – played a big part in his development & treatment.

With this book, we want to share the journey that Mikhail has been through and hope that it encourages other parents and children with special needs.

Mikhail’s parents, a paediatrician & horse-enthusiast couple, currently run Green Apple Hippotherapy, a centre that provides hippotherapy services to special needs children with a variety of special needs conditions.

 

 

Our Goals & How You Can Fuel Them

We’re trying to spread the word on the wonderful benefits of hippotherapy by sharing Mikhail’s personal journey dealing with his Autism condition. The goal is to have as many people aware that such a therapy exists in Malaysia. The funds you donate will go towards the printing & additional costs required to produce this book.

A Brief Introduction to Hippotherapy

Hippotherapy literally means ‘treatment with the help of a horse’. The word hippo in Greek language means ‘horse’. Hippotherapy is a medical treatment provided by a trained occupational, physical or speech therapist where the therapist uses the multi-dimensional movement of the horse to facilitate the achievement of therapeutic goals. These goals include improved balance, normalisation of muscle tone, improved vocalisation and communication skills, improved motor planning and many more.
